What Should I Eat · Last updated June 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Thinslate Labs, LLC ("Thinslate Labs", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the What Should I Eat iOS app (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an identifier and, depending on your choice, your email address and name. This is used to create and authenticate your account.
- Location. When you use the "Order In" feature, the App uses your precise location to find restaurants and dishes near you. Location is used to provide this functionality and is not used to track you or build an advertising profile.
- Photos you choose. If you photograph your ingredients, the image is processed to identify ingredients for recipe suggestions. You choose which photos to share; the App does not access your photo library otherwise.
- Preferences. Dietary restrictions, allergies, and cuisine preferences you enter, so recommendations match your needs.
- Activity. Your recommendation runs and saved dishes ("My Food"), so the App can deliver and remember your results.
- Subscription status. We receive a signed receipt from Apple confirming whether you have an active subscription. We do not receive your full payment card details — Apple handles payment.
- Usage analytics. We use analytics (PostHog) to understand how the App is used and to improve it. This includes app interactions and basic device information.
How we use your information
- To provide the App's core features — generating recipe and restaurant suggestions tailored to your ingredients, location, and preferences.
- To create and secure your account and verify your subscription.
- To operate, maintain, debug, and improve the App.
- To comply with legal obligations.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run the App:
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple and subscription billing.
- Microsoft Azure OpenAI — to generate recommendations and analyze ingredient photos. Relevant inputs (such as your ingredients, preferences, and photos) are sent for processing.
- Google Maps Platform (Places API) — to find nearby restaurants based on your location.
- PostHog — to process usage analytics on our behalf.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
Data retention
We keep your account information, preferences, saved dishes, and run history for as long as your account is active. Location data is used at the time of your request to return nearby results and is not retained to profile you. Generated content may be retained for quality and abuse-prevention purposes. When you delete your account, we delete your associated data as described below.
Your choices and data deletion
- Delete your account and data. In the App, go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and associated data from our servers, and clears local data on your device. This action cannot be undone.
- Request deletion by email. You can also request deletion of your data by emailing contact@thinslatelabs.us.
- Permissions. You can revoke location and photo access at any time in the iOS Settings app.
- Subscription. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We operate in the United States. If you use the App from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
